North: What next after consensus?

That he almost succeeded in his diabolical scheming was already history as poverty and stagnation have since become synonymous with northerners. And the once formidable enclave that determine the course of events in the political permutation of the country is now pathetically clinging beggarly at the mercy of ‘zoning’ to get back to political reckoning. How sad!
In his avowed determination to cripple the region, the celebrated and most accomplished northern hater had deployed various methods ranging from his policy of divide and rule, taking advantage of his people’s control of the media; our greed, and well-known docility, selfishness, religious and ethnic bigotry and strike at the root of our unity and cohesion.
Any doubt then that despite the onerous action of the Ciroma committee, the region was still in virtual political limbo, economic meltdown and social disarray, with various cleavages going tangentially to the satisfaction of its avowed traducers? In fact it was a near miracle that at the end of the day a glimmer of hope for a united north as represented by that forum can still be possible.
Looking at the selection of Atiku Abubakar as a consensus candidate of the PDP is inconsequential when we viewed it broadly from the perspective of the overall unity of the region that the action had generated. That the wise men were able against formidable odds, to reached amicable consensus and get the written endorsement of all the remaining contenders is worth celebrating indeed.
As a politician of no mean clout, who was able to mobilized resources and scuttled the infamous ‘sad-term’, Atiku Abubakar can still deploy his wealth of experience and political sagacity and acumen in the forth-coming PDP primaries to win against the incumbent dishonorable president; after which Nigerian voters can decides who to govern them for the next four years at the ballot boxes.
No doubt , current effort at scuttling the Jonathan presidency which is nothing but another ‘sad term’ by other means, is a task that most be accomplish by all right thinking minds  desirous of bequeathing to generation yet unborn a  peaceful and prosperous nation in one piece post  2011.
It is on that premise the recent claims by the NPLF that it had finished its mandate must be politely turn down. I think the struggle has just begun in trying to mend the many fault lines that were used to consign the region into its present sorry status. The Committee needs to expand its scope to go beyond party levels by incorporating many tendencies so as to solidify the modest achievement so far recorded. They must serve as a fulcrum around which the formidable north of yore can be recreated!
And now that the north can be said at least have a sense of purpose and direction and can look up to some few gentlemen within its ranks as men of credibility and honour, the task ahead for the NPLF(Northern Political Leaders Forum) and all like minded fellows is to try to consolidate the modest achievements so far recorded by blocking all loop-holes and crevices that have been truncating our march toward self realization and unity of purpose as one united and indivisible Northern entity; a factor which  guaranteed the sustainability of the Nigeria project.
