During the olden days, nose rings were an integral part of fashion among the locals. In some places people wear the rings as part of tradition. Nose rings were not popular among modern women, but these days, it has been observed that almost everyone is embracing the trend as a fashion style. Even the men are not left out.
Our findings revealed that the act of nose piercing for the purpose of wearing jewellery has different interpretations by different people. While some people think that wearing the nose ring is stylish and classy, others think it is tacky. Some also believe it is outdated.
There are different types of nose rings that can be worn by women. They come in several colours and sizes.
It has also been discovered that nowadays, one does not necessarily need to pierce one’s nose to wear the rings. You can use a magnetic stud or a ring that just goes round your nostrils.
 According to Cynthia Johnson, a final year student of the University of Port Harcourt, “Piercing the nose is trending and it looks good on women. I love it and I am planning to pierce mine too. I am using the fake studs now.”
Mariah Gambo, a hairdresser, said her mother pierced her nose when she was much younger, adding that initially, she did not like it, but since it is now trending, she has accepted it and is happy with it. She also pierces for anyone who is interested.
“I love seeing ladies with pierced noses and rings or shiny studs. It makes them look attractive,” Jeremiah Udeh, a salesman said.
People who think that this trend is tacky also shared their opinions.                  
“It looks ugly on women. I also think it is very distracting; hence it is not worn by people who want to be respected,” Malik Ozomata Sadiq, a student of the University of Lagos said.
Zinat Abdullahi, a law student at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, said she did not like it because it makes women look indecent, and it is tacky.
Ogechukwu Obinna, an entrepreneur also said, “I do not like it on women, especially those with flat noses. I think it looks ugly on them and makes them more classless. You will never see someone that is respectable wear rings on their noses.”
