Men of God are dumping the podium for politics. Is this scriptural?

Let’s go down memory lane, I believe in the early days, the children of Israel were led by judges. They had no king and these judges were statesmen who were inspired and led by God to lead his children. We are also made to understand that Israel had about thirteen judges who undertook the journey right from father Moses up to when they  stepped  into cross over to Jordan.

Now, it got to a point when Prophet Samuel came as one of the last judges and the children began agitating and crying that they needed a king.  Prophet Samuel was well embittered, and when he took the call to God, the Almighty told him that if they needed a king, well, Samuel should give them one.

That was when I believe the political scene began and that was what brought about King Saul and we knew how the children suffered in the hands of King Saul. Now, just to digress a little, in our present time, there is a yearning today as a result of some of these things that had gone wrong and needed to be corrected.

And I believe, I am not speaking for those Pastors who are there in politics but I am only saying, generally, that there is this agitation for those who really believe in God, those that really fear God to come to authority. Those who really carry the grace of God, who are really able to lead his children should come out and lead the people. That is the outcry now.

I also want to point out quickly that pastors being in politics now in this nation is not new. In other parts of the world, some have come in. Like in the mid-1990s. The churches in Europe and Latin America, most of them have gone into politics. And we discovered that the likes of John Carey and John Edward still use pulpit to speak on national issues. Now, those politicians are really in there, but people still place a demand on pastors to come out.

I will also have to point out that politics is supposed to be honest and with passionate desire to serve humanity. These should be the basis of anyone going into politics. So, if a pastor or clergy men is coming into politics it is right, I also want to note that there are some permissive activities that a minister of God or a pastor needs to take note of. One, that a pastor can preach or counsel in biblical ways or method, moral or social issues.

We have the likes of the Speaker of U.S House of Representatives, she is a committed Speaker and she is a committed believer. We also have the likes of Joe Biden. They are also committed believers. So, if we could also encourage those that fear God to go into politics, I believe it is okay. Then, the pastor could also stand again to advise the congregation to become involved in the political processes.

There are people there who don’t even know what is happening. We could encourage them and tell them to go in and salvage our nation and to bring their people forth. The pastor could also encourage members to register and vote. The pastors could also endorse credible candidates.

When this person knows that he is sent there to represent his people, at least, to a large extent, he will not swayed by the outside world. The hope will be there that he has to defend his people.
