Speaking in Kano at a meeting with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, Sambo said the PDP was not afraid of usage of card readers in the elections.
Sambo’s spokesman, Umar Sani, in a statement, quoted his boss as saying that the concern of the ruling party was that no eligible voter should be disenfranchised.
The vice president said there had been problems with the card reader testing in many other states.
“One thing I’ll tell you is that PDP is not afraid of anything, not even the card reader. We’re not afraid of the card reader. To be very honest, what we want is free and fair elections. We don’t want anything to go wrong through the use of the card reader. In Ebonyi State, the INEC commissioner there said he was going to repeat the testing and in so many other states, there have been problems with the card readers to the extent that  INEC itself has introduced an incidence form. That is why we’re saying look, let’s do this thing properly”, Sambo said.
He said since 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan had championed free, fair and credible elections.
He said Jonathan’s administration believes in the rule of law, adding, “That’s why we signed the Freedom of Information Act. Even to address the issue of corruption, you must start from free, fair and credible elections. If you don’t do it, you haven’t started to address corruption.”
He said the meeting was aimed at informing the journalists about the “inroads” Jonathan’s government had made in transforming the socio-economic well-being of Nigerians.
The vice president called on all Nigerians to cooperate with government at all levels in its ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
Sambo said President Jonathan would defeat General Muhammadu Buhari in the election.
The vice president who addressed newsmen after meetings with several groups in the state said  shifting the election had turned out to be a blessing as many of the unforeseen hitches have been addressed.
He said their administration had not failed the masses, but had succeeded in uplifting the standard of living of the citizenry.
Sambo expressed dismay over the politicization of  the Boko Haram insurgency.
“We are now succeeding in addressing this issue of insurgency, people should not politicize Boko Haram. The issue of terrorism is a global challenge, we are not the one who sent Boko Haram to Niger Republic, Cameron or Mali,” he said.
He said the administration has invested much in education in terms of creating many universities and providing the old ones with infrastructure.
He said the administration had spent N664bn on tertiary education through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and N297bn on primary education through UBE.
