The Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) Chief Missioner, Imam Abdul-Azeez Onike Morufu has, on behalf of himself and the NASFAT members Worldwide, commiserated with France and Christians over the fire which destroyed parts of the monumental Notre Dame Cathedral in France.

He said in a statement yesterday that the fire incident at the Notre Dame Cathedral, also a designated world heritage site and one of the most visited churches in the world, was regrettable.

“It is the duty of all Muslims of which NASFAT is a prominent party to share in the grief of any part of humanity. And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned,” he said.

He said it is difficult to imagine a situation where a church which had existed for over 800 years and where people have worshipped over the years  now destroyed within few hours and leaving the worshippers and visitors with a fait accompli.

“Similarly, It becomes more saddening to realize that this had happened at a time, borrowing the word of that renowned Islamic Scholar, Dr Yasir Qadhi, that ‘Where faith in God is fast becoming Scarce’,” he said.
