The law graduates’ position is contained in the speech by the President of the Law Alumni executive, Lawal Olutoyin, at its inauguration recently.
Olutoyin said the executive will work with the Law Students Association of National Open University of Nigeria (LAWSAN) and the NOUN Alumni Association (NOUNAA) in achieving the “basic aims and objectives of the university.”
He appealed to relevant authorities such as the Council of Legal Education (CLE), the Federal Ministry of Education and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to “kindly put up the modus operandi which would direct the process if admitting graduates of law from the National Open University to the Nigerian Law School.”
The alumni body said it would continue its campaign for acceptance of the challenges of modern day technology and it’s bearing on the nation’s education system.
“E-learning is the way to go worldwide, and NOUN is the pioneer driver,” the LAWSAN president said.
NOUN Vice Chancellor Prof. Ado Tenebe had in January this year told students of the institution that its law graduates may soon gain admission into the Nigerian Law School, like their counterparts from other varsities.
“We are at an advanced stage, because eminent Nigerians like the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is also one of our students, and respected citizen of this country have taken it upon themselves to help us contact the authorities to allow our graduates go through the Law School and participate in the bar,” Tenebe said while addressing the convocation assembly where the first first-class graduates of the institution were showcased to the public.
