Now it’s the Trump we know

 The Economist magazine described her as ‘America’s best hope’ while Daily Trust dared to say she was our choice because ‘she is a very calm measured and responsible woman, with a very good track record in the service of her country and a healthy respect for minorities and the downtrodden in her country and across the world.’ But neither editorial endorsement nor superlative accolades could win Hillary Clinton the presidency of United States. 

When the chips are down, neither publications nor the many minority groups that Donald Trump insulted, constituted the voting public the business mogul needed to win. And he knew this, so he damned the nay sayers went ahead to win. While the world is still reeling from the shock of Mrs Clinton’s defeat, I dare advice that we move on from disbelief to preparations for a world in the Trump era.

On April 30th this year, I wrote a piece titled ‘Better the Trump we know’ on this page. In it, I said a Trump presidency might be a blessing in disguise because his heart is in his mouth and one always knew where one stood with such a man. To me, a person like that is several times better than a politically correct individual, who will say one thing and proceed to do another. I still stand by my column of 30th April 2016, which I’ll reproduce below, because it advocates the right attitude to take now that it’s Trump at the top.
