On coming to office, Abia State Governor Theodore Orji vowed to get this depot working and truly his efforts have yielded results. The governor it was who provided the enabling conditions for the federal government to come in and resuscitate the oil lifting facility. The governor therefore wants the local community to ensure that the facility is protected. This is quite commendable.

It is equally my appeal to all Abians to assiduously work to ensure that the dreams of His Excellency for Abia State are actualized to their fullness. Bringing the depot to life is just one of the numerous things that the governor has done. Many more still need be done. We must not forget the rot our dear state went through.

We must not forget the issue of insecurity in the state. Before this administration came on board, criminal gangs reigned. Abia became notorious for armed robbery and kidnapping. The governor has enhanced security network and granted amnesty to kidnappers in the state. He has assisted security agencies particularly the police in the area of logistics so they can effectively tackle crime. This cost the government billions of naira.

Though government has done much in areas of infrastructure, education, unemployment and health, we would want it to do more.

Yes, we acknowledge that educational facilities are being given face lift even as Abia indigenes are being given scholarship to study abroad in order to enhance manpower development. The health sector neglected by previous governments must continue to be top priority by this administration. The scheme which makes available drugs in our hospitals must be sustained. Many communities in Abia State can now be accessed because of improved road networks state. This has helped farmers in moving their produce to commercial centres.

One particular area of interest is waste management. Though government has given more strength to the waste management ofice, we call for sustained supervision of the waste management officials. Giving them money and providing equipment are not enough. The governor must continue to pay unscheduled visits to the waste management office so as to keep them on their toes. Aba must be clean for ever! Today, one can pass through Aba without covering their nostrils. The horrible dumping sites have gone. But they once left only to back.

It is only by getting things properly done that government can truly help us. Truly government has great responsibility for the citizens. But the citizens must on their part demonstrate desire to be helped. That desire is in staying away from criminality and protecting government facilities like the depot recently reopened. Abians must jealously guard this depot even as Governor Orji continues to demonstrate his commitment to the welfare and progress of the people.
