The National Population Commission (NPC) has flagged off the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) in 19 out of 23 local government areas of Benue State.

Federal Commissioner of NPC representing Benue State, Kupchi Patricia Iyanya, during a briefing in Makurdi to officially launch the exercise, said the survey would hold in all enumerated areas where at least 45 households would be interviewed in each participating local government.
Represented by the NPC State Director, Nege Christopher Tarkumbur, the federal commissioner explained that the survey, which targets a total of 1,845 households in each cluster, will be conducted in 19 local government areas of the state -Makurdi, Gboko, Logo, Ukum, Katsina Ala, Ushongo, Vandeikya, Buruku, Konshisha, Kwande, Gwer East, Guma, Oju, Obi, Ogbadibo, Okpokwu, Otukpo, Apa and Ado respectively.

She said for over three decades, the NPC in collaboration with key partners, has diligently implemented the NDHS, consistently raising the bar for demographic and health data collection in Nigeria.
“The objectives of the 2023-24 NDHS are clear and profound: to gather high-quality data on a wide range of vital indicators, including fertility rates, maternal and child health, contraceptive use, childhood mortality, gender-related issues, nutrition, HIV/AIDS awareness, and more,” she said.
