NPC begins staff training on productivity measurement

The National Productivity Centre, NPC, has commenced  capacity building for staff for effective and efficient service delivery.

Speaking during the 4-day programme for staff of the Department of Productivity Measurement and Index of the Centre, the Director-General, Dr. Kashim Akor, identified data gathering, analysis and dissemination on labour productivity as critical instrument for the diversification programme and change agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

He said for the economy to be placed on the path of speedy recovery and sustainable development, there is a need for  the establishment of Productivity Data Bank and implementation of productivity measurement to measure  the performance of organisations and critical sectors of the economy in order to stimulate operational improvement. “The Department of Productivity Measurement and Index was created recently to adequately address areas of productivity measurement, data collection and analysis in the nation’s economy,” he said.

Akor said productivity measurement in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized as it provides the basis for knowing how well the various sectors of the economy have performed with a view to identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses that may need improvement or reinforcement.

He said the training modules covered all the critical aspects of productivity index and statistical tools for conducting productivity measurement at organizational, sectoral and national levels of the economy.
