The National Population Commission (NPC) has conducted a trial census in nine local government areas of Sokoto State.
The local government areas include Wurno, Rabah and Tureta, which have been experiencing bandits’ attacks.
- Salient issues in the PDP victory at the Osun State governorship election
- Misfit/Misfit leadership, not Muslim/Muslim, is what haunts Nigeria
Other areas were Shagari, Wamakko, Gwadabawa, Silame, Sokoto South, and Tambuwal.
Speaking after monitoring the exercise in some of the areas on Saturday, the National Commissioner in charge of Sokoto, Chiso Dattijo, expressed satisfaction with the way residents cooperated with the enumerators.
“I must commend our enumerators, traditional rulers, local authorities, and residents for their support and cooperation,” he said.
The commission was optimistic that the trial census would be hitch-free, saying so far, there was no report of any challenge from any of our enumerators.
One of the residents, Yusuf Aliyu Gidan Inda, who harped on the importance of the census to national development, called on the government to end insecurity in their areas.
