The National Population Commission (NPC) said it has begun the 2023-2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) in Lagos to advance the country’s data in the health landscape.
The commission’s state director, Sadiku Bamidele stated this Saturday during a press conference held in Lagos to commemorate the commencement of the health survey.
The federal commissioner-designate, Barrister Olayinka Oladunjoye was present at the meeting.
Daily Trust on Sunday reports that 51 clusters are covering the state’s 20 local governments with 45 households in each of the clusters.

The director said, “For over three decades, the National Population Commission has spearheaded the implementation of the NDHS, in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and key partners.
“This survey has been instrumental in providing invaluable insights that inform evidence-based policies, enhance public health interventions and contribute to the broader development agenda of our nation.
“Together, we have elevated this survey from a research initiative to a cornerstone of dependable demographic and health metrics for Nigerians,” he said.
Giving a breakdown of how the survey would be conducted, the state director said a team of interviewers would visit 45 households in a cluster, asking questions on fertility awareness, use of family planning, child immunization routine and other health-related issues.
“The end goal of the exercise is to enhance the quality of our health, it is about the quality of the profile of the population, to create awareness about family planning, fertility, HIV& AIDS,” he added.
