The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has summoned Enyimba FC’s management to an emergency meeting scheduled for Thursday, following serious allegations made by former Super Eagles striker, Brown Ideye.

This was made known by the chairman of NPFL, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye on the sidelines during the league draws yesterday.

According to him, when he saw the reports, he reached out to both parties for clarification.

“I saw the reports flying around and I reached out to both Ideye and Enyimba’s management. Ideye is my friend and a good ambassador of the league. However, there will be a meeting this Thursday to find out exactly what happened and to avoid a recurrence in future.

“The welfare of the players are essential to the integrity of our league and this is something I will not joke with,” he declared.

Ideye, who joined the Aba-based club in December 2024, criticized Enyimba, citing poor player welfare and irregular bonus payments during his brief spell with the team.

The 36-year-old expressed disappointment over the club’s treatment of players, particularly regarding daily allowances and match bonuses. He claimed that players are paid as little as ₦7,000 to ₦8,000 per day during away fixtures, with no standardized system for allowances.

“At Enyimba, we were receiving N7,000 a day. Sometimes N8,000. It’s not even stable. One day it’s N7k, another day N8k,” Ideye said.
