The Nigeria Premier Football League Club Owners Association have expressed their condolences to Sunshine Stars Football Club in Akure following the death of Taiwo Dosunmu, the club’s Assistant Kits Manager, who passed away from gunshot wounds sustained in an armed robbery on December 7th.
It will be recalled that the club were heading to play a game in Benin City when they were attacked by armed men.
In a condolence message signed on behalf of the Club Owners by its chairman, Chief Okey Kpalukwu, he lamented the premature death of Dosunmu which he described as avoidable. He blamed poor security on Nigerian roads which gives armed men the effrontery to maim and kill innocent people on a daily basis.
“This is indeed a very sad development that such a hardworking young man will be cut down in his prime while on duty with his team. This is because we don’t take matters of security of lives seriously in our country. We’ve been praying alongside Sunshine Stars for Dosunmu’s quick recovery but he’s gone. May his soul rest in peace”.

While praying for the repose of the soul of Dosunmu, the Rivers United General Manager hammered on the need for safer roads for clubs and Nigerians in general.
“On behalf of Nigeria Premier Football League clubs, I want to appeal to the government to please make our roads safe so that we will avoid this kind of avoidable deaths. Not all clubs can fly their players and officials to match venues, and even if we all can, there are states in Nigeria without airports, so teams will still have to travel by road. Let’s make our roads safe for Nigerians”, stated the NPFL board member.
