The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed down heavy sanctions to Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) following violent incidents during their Matchday 32 fixture against Ikorodu City at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
In a disciplinary ruling issued, the league slammed 3SC with a N5 million fine and imposed an indefinite home fan ban for the remainder of the season.
Shooting Stars were found guilty on three separate counts. The first charge was a failure to provide adequate security during the match. This lapse allowed unauthorized individuals to infiltrate restricted areas within the Lekan Salami Stadium, where they proceeded to harass match officials. For this security breach, the club was fined N1 million.
The second offense was a breach of Rule C9 of the NPFL Framework and Rules. The league found that Shooting Stars failed to control their supporters, leading to physical assaults on fans of the visiting team, Ikorodu City. This serious lapse in crowd management attracted another N1 million fine.
The third and final count involved a violation of Rule B13.18, after fans of Shooting Stars were seen throwing objects onto the pitch and toward match officials. This dangerous behavior resulted in an additional N1 million penalty.
Beyond the fines, 3SC must also pay N2 million in compensation to Ikorodu City for damage to their team bus, bringing the total financial penalty to N5 million.
As a further measure, the NPFL has closed the Lekan Salami Stadium to fans for the rest of the season, emphasizing the need to uphold safety and discipline across the league.
In accordance with Rule C26, Shooting Stars have 48 hours to either accept the decision or file a formal appeal.
