The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board has expressed strong disapproval over the unauthorized use of its official name by corporate entities and their collaborators in organizing football-related awards.

Chairman of the NPFL, Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye, made this known following the announcement of the Eunisell Boot Award for the highest goal scorer in the 2024/25 season.

While acknowledging the intent behind awarding Anas Yusuf with N3.6 million, Elegbeleye emphasized the importance of due process.

“It is not right for any persons or organisations to use the name of the NPFL and announce an award without recourse to the asset owners,” he said.

He further warned that the League would pursue legal means to prevent such unauthorized activities in the future.

“We are going to use every legal channel to protect our asset from this ambush of the NPFL. We will write to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission so that this illegal activity will stop once and for all,” Elegbeleye stated.

He confirmed that the NPFL is aware of the identities of those behind the award and issued a direct warning to them to cease such actions immediately.

“There must come a time when we must put a stop to end impunity no matter how long the illegality has been going on. This is the time and we must get things right,” he concluded.

Nasarawa United captain and striker, Anas Yusuf, who scored 18 goals to emerge the Highest Goal Scorer in the 2025 season was billed to receive N3.6 million cash prize from Eunisell for his individual accomplishment.

Before now, Junior Lokosa (2018; Kano Pillars), Sunusi Ibrahim and Mfon Udoh (2019; Nasarawa United and Enyimba), Israel Abia (2020; Rangers), and Chijioke Akuneto (2022; Rivers United) had won the awards.
