The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has increased its prize-money for the forthcoming 2024-2025 season to N200m.
It will be recalled that the winners of the 2023-2024 NPFL campaign, Enugu Rangers, went home with N150 million prize naira.
Following the league’s annual general meeting involving the NPFL board and all the 20 clubs in Lagos on Tuesday, July 16, the Chairman of the NPFL board, Gbenga Elegbeleye told reporters that N50 million has been added to the prize money presented last season.
Elegbeleye also revealed that the best player and best coach of the season will go home with N1 million each at the end of the league campaign. He said this is to encourage the players and coaches to give their best and minimize the rate of Nigerian players leaving for smaller countries in search of greener pastures.

“When we came on board, we discovered that the prize money of the league winner was N50 million which they never got. We promised to increase and we paid N100m in our first season and N150 million last season,” the NPFL Board Chairman said.
“Next season the winner will get N200 million and the award of N1 million each to the best player and coach is to encourage the players and coaches.
“We want Nigeria’s football system to have a new look for people to have confidence in us, we want to inject money into the league so that players will not run to smaller countries to start looking for clubs to play for.
“We want them to stay at home so our best legs will be here, we will pay them well and we can have more players in the Super Eagles from the league,” he said.
