Katsina United recovered from their disappointing start to the ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a stunning 2-1 victory against Plateau United in the MatchDay 2 fixture played yesterday at the New Jos Township Stadium.

It will be recalled that the ‘Chanji Boys’ had suffered an embarrassing 0-1 loss at home to NPFL returnees Warri Wolves in the opening match of the season.

Sadiq Auwal opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11th minute. Uche Collins then doubled the lead in the 60th minute before Hilary Albert reduced the deficit for the hosts nine minutes later.

In Kano, Pillars’ winless run continued after the “Masu Gida” boys were forced to a 1-1 draw by regional rivals, Wikki Tourists, in a fierce contest at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Ahmad Limado put the visitors ahead in the 12th minute but Umar Sani found the equaliser for Kano Pillars just before the end of the half.

However, newly promoted Barau FC suffered their first NPFL defeat in Yenagoa where high-riding Bayelsa United edged them 2-0 to go top of the table with six points from two matches.

The Coach Monday Odigie boys had recorded a shocking 1-0 win over 3SC in their first match of the season.

Although they stood firm to end the first half on equal terms, Barau FC conceded their first NPFL goal in the 58th minute when Magbisa Wisdom scored for Bayelsa United.

Twenty minutes later, Eyong Ofem put the match beyond the visitors with the second goal.

In Lafia, former Enyimba player, Leonard Ugochukwu, scored in the 10th minute as Nasarawa United who lost 0-1 to Tornadoes last week, laboured to a 1-0 win against Confederation Cup representatives Abia Warriors.

Elsewhere, Friday Ubong found the back of the net in the 22nd minute for Rivers United to beat Kwara United 1-0 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt, Enyimba piped Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Aba, El-Kanemi Warriors held Ikorodu City to a goalless draw in Lagos while Warri Wolves devoured former champions Enugu Rangers at warri Township Stadium 2-0 to maintain their unbeaten run.

The remaining NPFL week 2 fixture between newcomers Kun Khalifat and title holders Remo Stars will be decided today in Aba.
