NPFL: New boys Barau FC, Kun Khalifat suffer home defeats

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) debutants Barau FC and Kun Khalifat suffered home defeats in the Week 17 matches played yesterday.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, relegation troubled Barau FC went down 0-1 to visiting 3SC after Sodiq Ibrahim’s early goal in the 9th minute.

The defeat came on the heels of the crisis that has hit the club following the decision of the management to deduct staff salaries over poor performance.

In a related development, Kun Khalifat also lost at home to Abia Warriors who ran away with a 1-0 victory courtesy of Lawal Suraj’s goal at the death.

In Aba, Enyimba recorded a resounding 3-1 victory over Kwara United. Samuel Agu put his side ahead in the 23rd minute, Toyeed Gidado equalised for the “Afonja Warriors,” before Chidera Michael scored a brace for the comprehensive victory.

Niger Tornadoes returned to winning ways with an emphatic 3-0 home victory over hapless El-kanemi Warriors in Minna. Akintunde Azeez opened the scoring for the “Ikon Allah” boys from the spot in the 5th minute before Rickson Mendos sealed the victory with his brace in the 79th and 84th minute of the match.

In other matches played yesterday, Nasarawa United forced Plateau United to a goalless draw in Jos to remain top of the table with 31 points while embattled Kano Pillars also earned a point on the road after forcing Warri Wolves to a 0-0 draw.
