Leaders Remo Stars took a big step towards a first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with a hard fought 1-0 victory over South-West rivals 3SC in the week 34 match played yesterday at the Lekan Salami Stadium Ibadan.

Although their closest rivals, Rivers United also laboured to a 1-0 win over relegation bound Sunshine Stars, Remo Stars have opened a seven-point gap at the top of the table.

Remo Stars now have 65 points and a goal difference of +19, Rivers United have 58 points and +8 goal difference while debutants Ikorodu City who drew 1-1 at El-Kanemi Warriors occupy the third position with 53 points.

Abia Warriors after their scandalous 0-5 loss at Katsina United on Saturday have dropped to the fourth position also with 53 points but inferior goal difference of +1.

Alex Oyowah was the hero for Remo Stars after he scored the decisive and only goal of the south-west derby in the 30th minute.

At Lafia, 10-man Bayelsa United forced Niger Tornadoes to a 1-1 draw, Kwara United also held Heartland to a 0-0 draw in Owerri, just as Vincent Temitope recovered from the attack on him by an irate fan of Nasarawa United last weekend to sink Akwa United with his 22nd minute goal in Jos.

In the last match of the day, Bendel Insurance fought back to draw 1-1 with Nasarawa United in Benin City.

The draw has lifted the ‘Solid miners’ out of the drop zone as they now occupy the 15th position with 43 points.
