NPFL round-up: Kano Pillars thrash El-Kanemi as Plateau United thump Shooting Stars

Kano Pillars eased their relegation troubles with a commanding 3-0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors on Sunday.

The Northern derby in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) produced a resounding performance from the home side, with Rabu Ali, Luis Dadong, and Chidozie Okorie all on the scoresheet for Sai Masu Gida boys.

Captain Ali put the Landlords ahead on 13 minutes with his seventh goal of the season. The veteran smashed home into the roof of the net from the edge of the area following a poorly cleared corner kick.

Dadong doubled the lead two minutes before the break with a header from Izuchukwu Christian’s delivery, netting his third goal in five matches since joining Pillars in January.

Okorie added more gloss to the scoreline with his goal on 52 minutes to seal all three points that moved Kano Pillars out of the relegation places with 32 points from 27 matches.

Shooting Stars were also pummeled in Jos by Plateau United, succumbing to a 4-1 defeat despite taking an early lead that lasted just two minutes.

Plateau United scored twice in each half to seal maximum points in the midtable clash, as he continental hopes of Shooting Stars took a dent.

At the top of the table, Ikorodu City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bayelsa United, while Rivers United and Enyimba also played out a 1-1 draw in the contest between two big clubs.

Remo Stars, defending NPFL champions, fell to the bottom of the table following a 2-1 defeat at Wiki Tourists on Saturday to increase the relegation fears at the Ikenne-based club.
