Sunshine Stars’ technical adviser, Kennedy Boboye, has indicated that the upcoming pre-season tournament in Yenagoa will be crucial for evaluating his squad ahead of the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
The tournament, scheduled from Monday, August 12 to Sunday, August 18, will serve as an opportunity to assess the new recruits joining the team.
“The preseason competition will be strictly used to assess the newly recruited players. We have received some new players in our team from other clubs, so we are going to Bayelsa to test the players,” Boboye told Sunshine Stars media.
“The tournament is like a build-up for us; it’s not a must-win for our side, but if it comes, we will take it.

“The most important thing for us is to see how we can blend the new and old players together for a better performance.
“Despite the fact that we started a bit late, we are optimistic of a better season; we have good players who have joined us from other teams, and we are going to use this preseason tournament to see how we are going to incorporate them perfectly into the team in line with our philosophy.”
Additionally, Seth Mayi is set to join Sunshine Stars for the upcoming season. The midfielder, who struggled for game time at Remo Stars last season, will join Sunshine Stars on loan. Mayi will reunite with his former coach, Kennedy Boboye, with whom he won the NPFL title at Akwa United in 2021. Remo Stars have opted not to terminate Mayi’s contract, making this loan move a strategic decision for both parties.
Similarly, Enyimba defender Paschal Eze has also expressed confidence about his team’s readiness for the new season.
The nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions are ramping up their preparations and have signed several new players.
“We are on it, pre-season is a process and we are on it,” the defender told Enyimba media.
“We are working towards the new NPFL season.”
