In an effort to increase skilled workforce, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has commenced its Leadership Development Academy with thirty first set of enrollees.

Speaking at the launch of the academy, the Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr Faisal Shuaib on Thursday noted that “the new scheme is one of the agency’s mandates to developing a sustainable system of Primary Health Care (PHC) services.”

Shuaib revealed that the academy spurred out of the vision of building a workforce capacity within the agency to meet up with its responsibility of supporting states and local governments in developing a sustainable system of primary health care services.

He stated that the agency places a high premium on its workforce and continually invests in its staff capacity to strengthen their effectiveness and work efficiency.

The director added that the agency is going to deliver interventions that will increase the number of skilled NPHCDA workforce to meet the technical needs of the state primary health care boards and address PHC issues arising at national and sub – national levels.

“The academy was programmed to deliver advanced, cutting edge leadership and management skills that will uniquely position the NPHCDA staff to solve critical PHC problems by helping the enrollees to learn the fundamentals and how to apply and deliver high impact technical assistance to promote effective service delivery

“This initiative will leave the ever present gap of insufficient pool of agency staff that can lead and coordinate full suite of technical assistance to all 37 SPHCDAs”.  He explained

One of the enrollees, Dr Fatima Wanka said the training will provide better opportunities to deliver quality technical health care service delivery to people.
