NRC boss decries encroachment into railway lands

The Chairman of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engineer Usman Abubakar has decried encroachment into railway lands across the country; saying this is posing a challenge to the corporation.

According to him, lands belonging to the corporation have been taken over by individuals, corporate organisations and MDAs among others; saying huge sum of money can be generated from those lands for the development of the corporation.

‘‘ Our rail tracks across the country have been taken over by traders. One of the challenges we have is our inability to use the God-given resources to develop the company so that more money can be available for the Nigeria Railway Corporation to buy more coaches, to make staff happy and raise their morale to do their work well,” he said.
He raised this concern  when  he  visited the Railway Property Management Company Limited

in Kaduna, stressing  that without functional railway system in place, no meaningful developent  can take place.
