NRC deploys special Sallah train services

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has unveiled special train service arrangements across its major corridors to ensure seamless travel during the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The Corporation said it has increased capacity and introduced additional services to cater to the expected surge in passenger movement nationwide.

As part of the festive schedule, the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) will operate three trips on Thursday, March 19, 2026, the NRC said in a statement by Callistus Unyimadu, the Chief Public Relations Officer.

The statement said departures from Mobolaji Johnson Station, Ebute Metta, Lagos, are scheduled for 7:40 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 pm, while departures from Obafemi Awolowo Station, Moniya, Ibadan, will be at 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 pm.

The one-day arrangement is designed to accommodate increased passenger traffic, after which normal operations will resume.

On the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, the NRC will operate two trips on Thursday, March 19, while three trips will run daily from Friday, March 20 through Monday, March 23, 2026, to ease movement during the Sallah period.

In addition, the statement said the corporation, in partnership with the Osun State Government, will operate the Imole Special Train on the narrow-gauge corridor from Iddo Station in Lagos to Osogbo. 

The service will convey indigenes of Osun State free of charge as part of the state government’s Sallah initiative. 

 

While the service is fully sponsored by the state government, the NRC said it would provide rolling stock, technical support, and operational services.

 

On the Warri–Itakpe corridor, train services will continue to operate three times weekly, the corporation stated, adding that trains will depart Warri for Itakpe on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 8:00 a.m., while return trips from Itakpe to Warri will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 12:00 noon. Thursdays have been set aside for routine maintenance to ensure safe and efficient operations.

 

Similarly, services on the Eastern narrow-gauge corridor, particularly the Port Harcourt–Aba route, will maintain their regular schedule throughout the festive period.

 

The Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation reassured passengers of its commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient rail transport services across all corridors.
