The Nigerian Railway Corporation has commenced the recovery of truckloads of stolen and vandalised railway track materials from the sealed Birnin Yaro Factory in Kaduna State, following a major security operation carried out by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The latest recovery comes as a follow-up to the earlier raid on the factory, during which large quantities of suspected stolen railway materials were discovered and the facility subsequently sealed by security operatives.

The recovered materials are currently being transported back to the NRC railway yard for proper inventory, safekeeping and further investigation.

The Corporation described the development as a major breakthrough in the sustained fight against the vandalisation, theft and illegal processing of critical railway infrastructure across the country.

NRC said railway materials are strategic national assets provided for the safety and efficiency of train operations, stressing that they must not be stolen, sold, bought, melted, processed or treated as scrap metals.

The Management of the Corporation commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for its commitment and professionalism in the operation, noting that the recovery further demonstrates the importance of inter-agency collaboration in protecting national infrastructure.

The NRC also warned individuals, scrap dealers, factories, transporters and criminal networks involved in the theft, purchase, movement or processing of railway materials to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.

 

According to the Corporation, vandalism of railway infrastructure endangers lives, disrupts train operations, weakens public safety and undermines huge investments made by the Federal Government in the rail sector.

 

The Corporation reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against railway vandalism and assured Nigerians that it would continue to work closely with security agencies, host communities and other stakeholders to protect railway assets across all corridors.

 

NRC further appealed to members of the public to report suspicious movement, storage or sale of railway materials to security agencies or the nearest NRC office.

 

“Say no to railway vandalism. Protect national infrastructure,” the Corporation stated.
