The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has commenced a trial expansion of services on the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS), introducing additional trips on Thursday, April 16, to assess growing passenger demand on the route.

Under the arrangement, three train services will operate on the corridor for the day, extending the existing schedule where such frequency is typically limited to Fridays and Saturdays.

Trains will depart Mobolaji Johnson Station, Lagos, at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., while services from Obafemi Awolowo Station, Moniya, Ibadan, are scheduled for 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The move follows increased patronage recorded during the recent Sallah and Easter periods, when the corporation temporarily extended three-trip operations to Thursdays to meet heightened travel demand.

Ordinarily, the corridor operates two trips on weekdays, with increased frequency reserved for peak days. However, the strong turnout recorded during the festive period, particularly on Thursdays, has informed the decision to conduct a dedicated trial outside the holiday window.

The NRC said the exercise is aimed at evaluating passenger demand and determining the operational feasibility of sustaining additional Thursday services on a permanent basis.

Passengers have been advised that the mid-day service is part of the trial and to plan their journeys accordingly.

The corporation reiterated its commitment to improving service delivery, noting that it will continue to respond to passenger needs while balancing operational capacity and available resources.
