The Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi revealed this while speaking with Nigeria’s sports writers at the ‘Holiday Inn’ venue of the two-day retreat.

“The retreat gives me an opportunity to communicate my vision and my strategy plan to the senior staff of the Ministry.”

“What we are doing here is to set the agenda about what Sports Commission want to achieve in the next two years, medium plans and long term”, he noted.

Top on the agenda was the streamlining of the Ministry’s support for sports federations in the country.

The Minister retreated that the country would no longer invest its scarce resources in sporting events that earn the country few or no medals in international competitions.

“One of the issues we have discussed in this meeting was how to prioritize the kind of sports we develop in this country. I can say athlettics is at the top of the agenda.”

Mallam Abdullahi maintained that: “What we are aiming at ultimately, is a situation where some of these sports will be self sustaining.”

The Minister also revealed that a workable model on how to effectively improve and manage the National stadia in the country ranked high in their agenda.

Present also at the retreat were, the Director-General of the Commission, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Bolaji Ojo-Oba, all the Directors in the Ministry and other top officers.
