Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has burst a notorious syndicate of five men that specialised in raping minors in Mubi town, Adamawa.

Speaking to our reporter Tuesday, the NSCDC spokesman in the state, Suleiman Baba, said medical examination at the General Hospital in Mubi as well as confession of the victims and their suspects confirmed that the four minors, aged 10 to 12, were sexually violated.

Suleiman disclosed that the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from relations of the victims who alerted the corps, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others. 

He added that the abused girls were hawkers. He urged parents to desist from exposing their wards to such attacks by ending hawking.

“We are taking the suspects to court and they will be charged with rape, criminal force and assault on minors. Parents need to be vigilant on the movements of their wards if we must tackle this problem,” he added.

The spokesman identified the suspects as Abdullahi Ibrahim (32), Musa Mohammed (31), Bakura Mohammed (39), Joseph John (29), and Mohammed Musa (42).

Some residents of Mubi who spoke to Daily Trust said they would support the NSCDC to rid the town of criminal elements in order to save innocent girls from abuse.

A community activist, Danladi Chamba, extolled the commitment shown by the corps by swinging into action after the tip-off, saying the community would be mobilised to expose more suspects.

“We are working on a theory that those rapists of minors are a syndicate; we need to work and expose those dangerous people,” Chamber said.
