The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, has arrested a suspected scrap dealer over the alleged unlawful possession of vandalised electrical cables in the state.
The suspect, identified as Muhd Adamu, a 50-year-old scrap seller from Maruwa town in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of the State, was arrested by operatives of the corps on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, the suspect was apprehended following intelligence linking him to the illegal possession of electrical cables suspected to have been vandalised.
The statement revealed that during the operation, NSCDC personnel recovered an aluminium cable measuring about 267 metres from the suspect. The cable is estimated to be worth about N573,300.

Preliminary investigations, according to the command, showed that the cable was allegedly brought to the suspect’s residence for safekeeping by two individuals identified as Sani and Auwalu, both natives of Ruba village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area.
The two suspects are currently at large, while security operatives have intensified efforts to track them down and bring them to justice.
“The suspect is presently in custody while investigation is ongoing. Efforts are also being intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplices linked to the crime,” the statement said.
Reacting to the development, the State Commandant of the NSCDC in Jigawa State warned individuals involved in vandalising critical national assets and infrastructure to desist from such illegal activities or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
The commandant emphasised that vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly electrical installations, poses serious threats to economic development and public safety.
He further called on residents of the state to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities around public facilities and infrastructure.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the state, assuring residents that it will continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
