The Sokoto State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) has deployed 1,002 personnel for the forthcoming governorship and house of assembly elections in the state.

Daily Trust reported that the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state were marred by violence, resulting in the cancellation of results from over 400 polling units.

Briefing newsmen on their preparation ahead of the election on Thursday, the NSCDC Commandant, Bello Alkali Argungun, noted that the command had made adequate arrangements towards ensuring a violence-free election in the state.

“We have seen what happened during the last election; the violence recorded in some parts of the state. We will not allow that to repeat again.

“We are working with INEC to ensure a hitch-free election devoid of violence and other irregularities,” he said.

He said the command made several arrests during the last election and that those found wanting would be charged in court.

He called on the people, especially politicians to give peace a chance, saying they would not spare anybody who instigates violence during the election no matter his position in the state.
