Commandant-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ade Abolurin has said the organisation was planning to change its operational tactics towards making the Osun State gubernatorial election a hitch-free one.
He gave this indication at the National Headquarters of the Corps in Abuja on Tuesday while briefing his personnel ahead of deployment to Osun State for the polls.
Abolurin who is critical of the mandate of the organization regarding the protection of voting materials before, during and after elections reiterates that the Corps will be effectively and adequately deployed towards providing security in all the polling station, units, local government areas and collation centres during the election.
According to him, in addition to the deployment of personnel from the Intelligence and Surveillance, the Special Forces, SWAT, Counter- Terrorism, Special Duties and Operations, the Anti-Vandal Squad units of the Corps, the newly acquired American-trained sniffer dogs will also be massively deployed alongside others from Russia and South Africa.
He urged the people of the State to dispel rumors, insinuations and allegations of intimidation and harassment by security operatives as men of the NSCDC were determined to synergize with other relevant agencies to provide a conducive atmosphere for people to exercise their franchise on Saturday.
The Commandant-General added: ” We are not going to Osun to frighten anybody but to relate with the people in a very civilized manner towards conducting the election in an atmosphere devoid of violence and chaos. Also we need to give adequate security coverage to various critical infrastructure and national assets which can be vandalized by hoodlums and miscreants in the course of the election.”
He further appealed to Osun state Indigenes to give maximum cooperation to security operatives and be security conscious in all their dealings.
