The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has inaugurated a 60 special female squad to enhance security in schools.

Speaking at the inauguration of the squad, the state’s Commandant, Muhammad Lawal Falala, said the squad was trained specifically to tackle insecurity, banditry, rape and other criminal activities, noting that females didn’t take the issue of rape lightly; hence that they were the best group that would fight the menace.

He explained that the squad was first commissioned in 2022 at the corps’ national headquarters by the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

He said, “After a comprehensive study was conducted nationwide, it was discovered that many schools were vulnerable, which made them prone to attacks by terrorists and bandits.

“The result of the research revealed that most schools in the country do not have security, either government or private security.”

He added that the squad would be deployed to primary and secondary schools, as well as tertiary institutions, to ensure safe learning environments.

He appealed to women in the state to apply and join the quad when the corps’ portal was opened.
