DSP Adama Adekunle Emmanuel, an official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has been allegedly shot dead by his colleague.

The incident reportedly occurred in the morning at a hotel in the Life Camp area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking to City & Crime, the widow of the deceased, Mrs Titilayo Adams, said the family suspects foul play in the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.

“From his body — we can visibly see gunshots at his shoulders, and nothing strong indicating that it’s accidental fire. They want to cover up what actually occurred,” she alleged.

She further stated that the corpse was deposited at Maitama General Hospital without the family’s consent.

According to her, the late officer had been attached to a politician in the Life Camp area and left home on Sunday, August 31st, with plans to return later that day.

“He left the house on Sunday (August 31st) and was supposed to have returned home yesterday Sunday,” she said.

Mrs. Adams added that the family was only informed of his death by a colleague, identified as Mr. Emmanuel, on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s after Sunday service that his colleague Mr Emmanuel came to inform us that he mistakenly shot himself multiple times which led to his death.

And we learnt that Emmanuel himself wasn’t at the spot where it happened. He was called and informed about the incident.”

She expressed frustration over the conflicting accounts provided to the family.

“So, we suspect that there’s ‘foul play’ surrounding the whole incident. We are given three conflicting reports about what led to his death. One it’s accidental discharge as he’s fixing his rifle. Second being friendly fire that his colleague accidentally shot him. And third he shot in the air and the bullet bounced back on him.”

Mrs. Adams lamented that the family has been left in the dark and has yet to receive any official communication from NSCDC authorities.

“They (authorities concerned) said they are coming to see us but to this moment nobody contacted us to brief us about the mysterious incident that led to the untimely death of husband.”

She appealed for justice and support, highlighting the hardship the family now faces.

“My husband left behind his parents, two children who supposedly resumed school today, and our house rent also expired. They should also take care of his burial rites. I have no job to cater for the children — all I want is justice for my husband.”

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the NSCDC’s FCT Command spokesperson, Monica Ojobi, were unsuccessful, as messages sent to her remained unanswered.

Similarly, when contacted, the FCT Police Command PRO, Josephine Adeh, said, “I will call for confirmation and details then get back to you please.”
