Operatives of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Sunday, stopped suspected vandals in Badagry while attempting to evacuate petroleum product allegedly syphoned from ruptured pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) that ran through the creeks in Lagos.
During the operation, 19 plastic sacks filled with refined petrol were recovered from the suspects at Gbrovimen located at Ago waterside in Badagry.
On sighting the operatives, the vandals took to their heels, abandoning the already syphoned product in the process. The NSCDC Commandant of the state, Eweka Douglas Okoro, said the suspects perpetrated the act while hiding under the covers of darkness.
Okoro said during the operation, the team discovered some thick nylon bags wrapped with sacks and loaded with unknown litres of petrol, totaling 19.
The commandant said the product was to be ferried by boat probably to Benin Republic where it would be sold.
The commandant said the recovered products were evacuated to the state command in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
