The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has inaugurated interim executives of the Institute of Power Engineers for Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

Inaugurating the executives, the NSE’s Chairman in Kano, Engineer Rabi’u Haruna called on the executives to use their vast experience to promote core and cardinal objectives of engineering profession which include improving technical competence of power engineers, networking with research institutions and universities, sharing knowledge with undergraduates and teaming up with other colleagues in the industry.

“I wish to call on the entire engineers particularly the NIPE whom we trust and believe they have the technical competence to strive and find lasting solution to prevailing power supply in the country, to consider other alternatives such as solar, wind, bloom, bio master, cascaded hydro and gas energy to generate more electricity,” he said.

He said sustainable power supply was a key to development as it would reduce crimes, boost businesses, reduce unemployment, boost activities of industries and improve the economy of the nation in general.

On his part, the Acting Chairman, Engineer David Omoloye, said without sustainable supply of electricity, the economy would always be sick, assuring that NIPE members would continue to put in their best in improving power supply in the country.

He said, “Power is the driver of economy of a society and without it the economy will be sick. We must develop power sector for the future generation. Things are changing all over the world. It is unfortunate that in Nigeria the power generation is concentrated in the southeast.

“For us to have stability, we must give supply to all parts of the country. Without power we are going nowhere and with it we can compete with any country in the world.”
