Inaugurating the committee at the NUC secretariat in Abuja, NUC Executive Seecretary, Professor Julius Okojie, said the main objective of the committee was to enhance teaching and learning of law as well as strengthen it by producing well qualified lawyers.
He said the committee will take census of all law faculties in the universities, review their status and explore areas of further collaboration between the commission and the council for the overall development of the nation’s law programmes.
While calling for synergy between the NUC and other professional bodies towards enhancing teaching and learning in the nation’s citadels of learning, Okojie said the commission is ready to collaborate in view of its statutory role in accreditation of course and programmes in the universities.
He urged them to also draw a roadmap for guaranteeing the improvement of law programmes in the universities and advised them to see the assignment as a call to national duty for the benefit of the nation.
In his remarks, the Director General CLE , Mr. Olanrewaju Onadeko,  said the need for synergy is important noting that  professional bodies enabling statutes and the NUC Act expected them to work together to ensure that objectives are met and maintained.
While assuring that CLE never visited programmes which the commission had denied accreditation since NUC decision was based on empirical analysis, he added that, “the focus of the council was to firm up standard in the profession.”
The committee members were drawn from both NUC and the CLE. Some of the members included the Deputy Executive Secretary NUC, Mr. Akinbode Agbaoye, Director Quality Assurance NUC, Professor Chinedu Mafina, Deputy Director Nigeria Law School, Dr. Nasirudeen Usman, Director Academics at the Law School headquarters, Sam OSamolu amongst others.
