Addressing a workshop on university governance, revenue generation and prudent financial administration in the Nigerian university system, organised by Bingham University in Abuja, Okojie insisted a school’s ability to generate revenue depended on the structures it has in place and its plans to sustain them.
“Revenue generation depends on the structure you put in place, so if it is the proprietor that is the sole provider of fund in terms of private university, there will be problem and as a young university you should be prepared to carry the burden,” he said.
He also cited ownership and sponsorship among problems facing the governance of universities in the country.
Bingham Vice Chancellor, Prof Samuel Leonard-Fwa said he aspired to see the school change for the better and reach its targets in the next few months.
“We are working towards perfection. As we cannot attain perfection and you may not see anything yet but we will try to improve on what we have now,” he said.
Kursim said the school administration had concluded plans to give the institution a facelift with the commissioning of on-going projects in due course.
Prof. Dogara Gwamna, pro-chancellor and chairman of Bingham’s governing council, said the council recognised and would work toward NUC standards and good governance.
