A visiting professor in the commission, Eugene Okpere, said with availability of funds medical schools in Nigeria will be using robots to learn medicine as number of patients available for teaching is reducing in relation to the population of medical students.
He said: “Simulation training really encompasses, among other things, training the students using electronic bodies that are not really human bodies designed in such a way that they can exhibit any kind of sign and the students can evaluate and learn. So that we will now know that by the time students study through simulation, they already have 25% competence before he even think of life patients.
“More relevant thing is the fact that patients today in Nigeria are getting very smart, very wise. They know their rights. Not many patients are very contented or happy to be used as guinea pigs,” he said.
The registrar of the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria, Professor Oluwole Ayoyebi said though the medical schools are already programmed to do that, many of the simulation used in Nigerian medical schools are not the classical technology that can be used to simulate any condition.
 He said what the universities need now is the provision of the simulation materials.
The Vice-Chancellor Osun state university, professor Adekunle Bashiru, said the simulation method will save lives if implemented in the universities.
