The appointment of Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki as the new Commissioner for Information in Kaduna State has been described as “the right choice” by two of Nigeria’s leading media bodies — the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).

Both groups applauded Governor Uba Sani for what they described as a strategic and well-considered decision to entrust the state’s public communication portfolio to a seasoned media professional.

In a statement issued by Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, Executive Secretary of BON, the association extended warm congratulations to Maiyaki, noting that his leadership at the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC) and longstanding commitment to the media industry make him a fitting candidate for the role.

“Your appointment is a well-deserved recognition of your remarkable contributions to public communication, media development, and the broadcast industry,” Bamgbose stated. “We are confident that you will bring the same commitment, insight, and professionalism to your new role.”

BON added that Maiyaki’s wealth of experience would enhance the communication strategy and public information management of Kaduna State, while also fostering deeper collaboration between the government and the media industry.

Similarly, the Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) described the appointment as timely and appropriate, given Maiyaki’s proven track record of professionalism, humility, and teamwork.

In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Abdulgafar Alabelewe, and Secretary, Comrade Gambo Santos Sanga, the NUJ said: “The government has indeed placed a round peg in a round hole. Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki is a dedicated and goal-oriented journalist whose appointment will foster unity among journalists and promote the government’s SUSTAIN agenda.”

The NUJ highlighted Maiyaki’s prior service as Director-General of Media and Publicity under former Governor Ramalan Yero, as well as his recent tenure as MD of KSMC, saying those roles reflect his readiness to handle the demands of his new post.

The Council also commended Governor Uba Sani for consistently recognizing professional journalists through strategic appointments. “The inclusion of trained media hands such as the Chief Press Secretary, Special Assistants on Media, and the Executive Director of Radio Services at KSMC underscores the governor’s belief in the power of professional communication,” the NUJ stated.

As Maiyaki assumes office, both NUJ and BON expressed optimism that his leadership will bring positive reforms to Kaduna’s media and information management, branding him simply as “the right choice at the right time.”
