The committee, co-chaired by Victor Attah and Ibrahim Coomasie had recommended for labour matters to be moved from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List and for local government to be removed from the constitution.
NULGE President Ibrahim Khaleel in a press conference said “decentralising labour is undemocratic, anti-people; I don’t think any right thinking Nigerian would venture into that. As one of the affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), all the decisions taken by the NLC regarding the issue at stake we are part and parcel of it.”
While accusing some delegates of missing touch with reality and the role the local government system plays in grassroots development, he urged the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to fully immerse themselves in the fight against the committee’s recommendations.  
“There is a need for the two labour centres to remain focussed, to also look into the need of the Nigerian people, particularly this issue of relegating local governments to an appendage, as administrative units under the states, it should not be accepted by the labour movement in Nigeria because it is anti-people. It is an exclusive policy that will exclude Nigerians from participating in the democratic activities of our nation.”
