NULGE in a statement which it’s National Publicity Secretary, Jepson Olawole Sunday, said it recognised that there were clear criteria for determining appropriate wages payable to various professionals in a particular sector of the economy.

The statement said, “We want to submit that government has not been proactive enough in addressing the commensurate wages payable to public servants in the nation’s economy.

“An arrangement whereby leadership of industrial unions are acquainted with criteria for implementation of future demand for wage increase in the work place is most desirable at the point of our national life. In civilized climes wage determination is structured towards well defined time, principles and factors that are standardised and meticulously applied’.

Meanwhile, the union has taken a swipe at the former NULGE President, Mr. Kingsley Ogba for parading himself as the president of the union, describing his position as unlawful.

Present caretaker committee of the union was set at the wake of Ogba’s removal as president on August 10, 2009 by an Abuja High Court which thereafter suspended all electioneering activities of the union.

The union said it had concluded an arrangement to conduct elections to elect new officers in states where their tenure had already lapsed, adding that there was no reason for officers to remain perpetually in office.
