The Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Kaduna has commended the state government’s decision to reabsorb some local government staff “wrongly sacked” in the recent rationalisation exercise.

The President of the Union, Comrade Rayanu Ishaku Turunku, said they were ready to work with the state government in bringing meaningful reforms that would make the local government councils more viable.

Comrade Rayanu, in a statement, commended Governor Nasir El-Rufai for honouring his promise to look into the concerns of the union and complaints of some of the affected workers affected by the exercise. He said the reabsorption of the affected workers was not only a healthy development but a step towards promoting peace and industrial harmony in the state.

The state NULGE president, however, appealed to the governor to extend the gesture to other staff affected by the rationalisation, especially those who are entitled to retirement benefits but are yet to be paid.
