Hajiya Bilkisu: Oh, my role model, rest in peace
The death of Hajiya Bilkisu in Saudi Arabia during the recent tragic stampede is indeed a big and heart-touching loss to the journalism Profession. The loss is not only for today’s journalists, but also for the future ones like me, who are aspiring to withstand the rigours and challenges of the profession. I wish if I could have met her in person before she died, as she has been my role model. I no doubt would have benefited from her vast experience. May her gentle soul and those of the others involved rest in perfect and eternal peace, ameen.

I wept for Hajiya Bilkisu…
The demise of my mentor, seasoned journalist and ombudsman, a versatile columnist and the first woman editor from the northern part of this country tore me to pieces. When I read of the death of late Hajiya Bilkisu Yusuf on social media around 2.am, I could not sleep anymore, until I went for my dawn prayers, where I prayed for her soul. I have been an ardent follower of late Hajiya Bilkisu from when she was the editor of Triumph newspaper in Kano. Her contributions to human endeavour will continue to be legacies, for which she will be remembered for a long time.

Kaduna: Erratic power
supply in Pambegua
Permit me a space to make a passionate appeal to the Kaduna State Government to come to the aid of Pambegua community of Kubau local government. The community has been experiencing epileptic or erratic power supply. This has come at a time when the country is witnessing dramatic improvement of power supply in line with PMB’s change mantra. While other communities are enjoying constant light, Pambegua is left with lamentation as the result of complicity by some PHCN staff who are in the habit of cutting off the power for no reason. Besides that, some parts of the community have been in total blackout for the past several years, due one problem or the other. We believe the Kaduna State government will call the PHCN to order and fix the problem.

When men behave like beasts
I have to get this off my chest. I’m talking about the incessant reports of men defiling children and other cases of rape, of minors and even women of various ages. It seems to have become an epidemic in the past few years. One of the ways this can be curtailed is the education of girl children on the dangers of being alone with strangers and how to respond when even family members touch them inappropriately. I’m no expert, but it’s clear that relevant authorities need to buckle up and come up with a solution!

Re: Inside EFCC’s high-profile corruption cases
In your last edition, the above-mentioned story stood out. I, for one, loved the idea that some seemingly forgotten issues have been rekindled. It is now left for government – and the EFCC – to do the needful. There are dozens of openly corrupt Nigerians in various sectors, so really, how hard is it to nab them. Nigerians are tired and need to see change in that direction.
