The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called for a stakeholders summit to tackle the rising crisis of oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the country.
According to the union, the stakeholders should comprise ship owners, depot owners, Police, Army, Navy, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, DSS, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Civil Defense Corps and the unions in the nation’s oil and gas sector.
President of NUPENG, Comrade Igwe Achese, who gave the advice  during a courtesy call on the chief of Army Staff, Lt – General Tukur Buratai , said his union is unsettled over  the incessant vandalisation and oil theft which has led to huge losses to the nation’s economy. He promised to collaborate with the army to end the scourge.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the attitude of some soldiers who harass and disturb tanker drivers performing their duties in the haulage of petroleum products to various parts of the country.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt – General Tukur Buratai said that he had ordered the commander of the Military Police to check the harassment of tanker drivers.
