Engineers honor Dangote, Mimiko, others

Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has approved conferment of Honorary Fellowship of the society on the governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, industrialists Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Dr. Innocent Chukwuma as well as founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Afe Babalola.
A statement from the Head, Media & Publications NSE, Abdulkadir Aliyu quoted the president and chairman of Council of NSE, Engr. Ademola Isaac Olorunfemi as saying the four were “considered worthy of the honour by virtue of their respective dispositions as advocates of engineering advancement in Nigeria.
“Council of NSE exercises the discretion to elect distinguished persons into the cadre of Honorary Fellowship, having been considered to have advanced the prospection of public works or eminent in science and technology and promoted engineering in all ramifications.”
He said Mimiko is honoured in recognition of his programmes as governor of Ondo State, which has placed advancement of engineering, viv-a-vis infrastructure development of the state in consistent perspective.
  Since inception in 1958, NSE has confirmed 1,800 of its members on the Fellows cadre, 20 of which are Honorary Fellows.
 Amongst the list of the 20 Honorary Fellows are distinguished names as President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Mutiu Sumonu, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Prince Bola Ajibola, Sir Mobolaji Bank Anthony, Chief (Dr.) M. K. O. Abiola (late), amongst others.
The NSE president will confer the awards on the new Honorary Fellows at the opening ceremony of the NSE Annual Engineering Conference/AGM scheduled for Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure.
The theme of the 2015 Engineering Conference tagged Sunshine 2015 is “National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) 2014 – Strategies for Implementation”.
The entire conference proceedings will span through Monday, November 16 to Friday, November 20, 2015.
