About 70 percent of diseases discovered in human beings today are contracted from animals, a university don, Dr. Julius Olamiyi Aiyedun has said.
Aiyedun, who is the sub- dean, faculty of veterinary medicine, University of Ilorin, disclosed this while speaking on the World Rabies Day recently.
He said brucellosis and anthrax are examples of such diseases found in humans today and normally contacted from animals.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the university in conducting effective research with colleagues at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital in order to tackle the scourge.
He urged all vetenary experts in the country to collaborate with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to create awareness about diseases in order to have a healthy environment.
The expert also called for effective research by medical experts in the country in order to curb the various diseases being contacted from animals.
