The Project Manager of Kwara state Committee on AIDS (KWASACA), Dr Johnson Oyeniyi, yesterday said about 39 million people have died of human Immune virus (HIV/AIDS and that one in every 20 adults live with the virus accounting for about 71 percent globally.
He said since the outbreak of the epidemic about 78 million people had been infected with the HIV virus.
Johnson said this in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital at a-one day agenda on sustainable development goals advocacy organized by International Women Communication Centre.
Oyeniyi further said: “This trend can be prevented in rural women by increase treatment and reduction on the impact of HIV/AIDS; awareness creation that reduces new infection transmission at the family level by rural women; reduction of stigma and discrimination attached to HIV/AIDS among family members so as to cater for sick ones at home; provide care and support to people that are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.”
