US singer, Jidenna hushed for anti-Igbo comments

Fast rising Nigerian-American act Jidenna whose song “Classic man” has been topping charts in the U.S came under fire recently on Twitter after his utterances about arming himself when he came to Nigeria for his dad’s burial because,” light skinned people are a target for kidnapping because you’re seen as more valuable.”
This was part of an interview he granted to a media outfit, Vlad recently; but the comment has not gone down well with many Nigerians as they view it as inductive, inciting and harsh.
Twitter users fired back in severe reactions to his utterances. One Adaiba @adaibaaa tweeted a shock question, “So If you’re light-skinned, you’re more prone to kidnapping? Then Fatoumata @Kamari_Danae added: “ Lol…..Jidenna’s 3 piece suit must have been too tight during that interview. What was he saying?
Pro-photographer @LOSGIDDY who saw it as misinformation and Diaspora ignorance concluded “Suddenly I don’t like this Jidenna lad”.
An upset Champagne mami @Anyato reacted thus: “What does he mean by saying that you’re a target if you’re light skinned? Almost half of Ndi Igbo (Igbo people) are fair-skinned, nwokem.”
Chibaby @Fenininja4Q responded: “See ehn, @Jidenna, if you don’t have money, nobody wants to kidnap you. You are not the only yellow person in Enugu.”
Others reacted on Instagram. One of such people was Nasa1699 who posted: “How dare you say that crap about us Igbos? Are you okay? Do you know how many mixed breeds that we have who live in Nigeria? What makes you think you are more special?”
