Activities at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) were crippled yesterday, as workers of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) staged a protest over non-payment of their entitlements.
The protest was held by the Air Transport Services Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP).
The workers, who converged on the airport in the morning, refused to enter their offices. They also passed a vote of no
confidence on the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. Saleh Dunoma and his team.
Speaking to Daily Trust on behalf of the three unions, the ATSSSAN’s chairman, Lawal
Ahmed Fagge, said the workers will not attend to any official file until they receive directives from the national body of the association.
“We will report to our places of work, but we will remain outside our offices, pending the outcome of the meeting between our national executives and FAAN. We want all pending issues with FAAN to be resolved this time around. FAAN should stop with immediate effect the latest romance with Bi-Courtney,” he said.
He said they have information that “with the latest romance between FAAN and Bi-Courtney, the west coast flights like Ghana and Cameroon will be diverted to the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMA 2), Lagos”.
